Lead walking mistake number 3

Arousal

Mistake No 3:

Over arousal when training lead skills

Your usual walk, your dog is excited as he is off to the park to go race round and play with all his doggy friends is not the time to practice calm lead walking because your dog is far from calm.

He is over-excited and giddy and soooooo happy to be outside and listening to you is beyond him.

Start somewhere your dog is less excited and more likely to listen and focus on you.

Always set your dog up to succeed not to fail when you are training your dog, you will both get frustrated, you will get cross and you won’t get anywhere with it.

Start in a quiet place with no distractions and nail it, then find other places to practice and build the behaviour.
